From hands-on learning experiences for children to opportunities for motivated high school students to earn college course credit, The School of Science and the IUPUI Center for Research and Learning offer a variety of programs created to foster interest in science and research.
Each year, the Department of Computer and Information Science hosts Computer Science Day—a competitive event for high school students.
Students compete on teams of two in the categories of introductory game programming, intermediate programming and problem solving, advanced programming and problem solving, and web development.
Winners in each of the categories are awarded scholarship funds if they are directly admitted to the IUPUI School of Science, no matter which science degree they decide to pursue.

The IUPUI SPAN Division allows motivated high school students to get started on their college education or just take courses—including computer science classes—that are not available at their local high school.
